Deana is a small town girl and native of Belmont, NC. She attended East Gaston High School and completed several studies through the Institute of Financial Education. In 1991 she married her high school sweetheart, David. They currently reside in Stanley, NC and have two beautiful daughters, Keleigh and Ashleigh. In October of 2010 they were blessed with their first grandchild, a little girl, Elynd. Their son-in-law, Chase, and Keleigh live nearby in the next town and this enables Deana to spend much quality time with her family, which she enjoys tremendously.
Deana comes from a deep rooted Christian family with a music/ministry history. Her parents traveled in ministry for many years while Deana was growing up. She and her siblings were raised on the road and she has never forgotten the deep roots of southern gospel music that were instilled in her as a young child. It was nothing out of the ordinary for you to hear voices of family harmony and guitar strings strumming southern gospel tunes most every evening after supper, camping trips by the campfire, and during family gatherings. Some of her fondest memories are those of when neighbors, friends, and strangers were drawn to the sounds of her family singing and playing praises to our Lord. In the dark of the night, on a cool summer evening, she can remember seeing faces around the campfire as her family enjoyed their summer vacation in the Georgia mountains. Off in the distance, she would see movement in the dark of night. When she would step out away from the campfire light she would see total strangers (campground guests) who had been drawn to the sounds of her family singing and playing of the strings. Southern gospel music would echo through the quiet mountains and when the music stopped you could hear nothing but voices of family around the campfire as the rest of the campground was completely silent (awaiting for the next guitar strum or song to start). Year after year, this would take place as guests would place their chairs as near to the boundaries of their camp site as possible, eagerly trying to get a good ear to hear the guitar strings and voices, without feeling as though they had intruded on her family or their campground site. Not realizing it then at her young adolescent age, but all along God had begun a work in her by instilling ministry in her that has continued to carry on through the ministry of Heart 2 Heart. Touching God’s people through song, a legacy that she is honored to carry on.
Deana enjoys spending time with her family, giving Elynd all her attention, traveling, long conversations and a cup of coffee with friends, watching a Braves game with David and romantic get-a-ways with him, and on any given day she will choose the mountains over the beach in a heartbeat. When not on the road ministering, her favorite past time would be sitting on the porch of a log cabin, drinking a cup of coffee, and taking in the cool crisp air while enjoying a beautiful mountain view.
